Global Diesel Generator Market Accelerates Transformation: Focus on Energy Conservation, Emission Reduction and Intelligent Application

2026 03/18

Against the background of global carbon neutrality goals, low-emission diesel generators have become the mainstream of the market. Major economies around the world have successively introduced stricter emission standards, forcing enterprises to accelerate product upgrading. In the European market, the Euro V emission standard has been fully implemented, and diesel generators that fail to meet the standard have been gradually phased out. In China, the Non-road Mobile Machinery National IV Emission Standard has been officially implemented since 2025, promoting domestic manufacturers to increase R&D investment in low-emission technologies. For example, Yuchai has launched a new generation of diesel generator sets equipped with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) systems, which can reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by more than 50% and particulate matter emissions by over 90%, fully meeting the national IV emission standards.
Intelligent upgrading has become another important trend in the diesel generator industry. With the development of the Internet of Things, big data and artificial intelligence technologies, more and more diesel generators are equipped with intelligent monitoring and remote control systems. These systems can real-time monitor the operation status of generator sets, including voltage, current, oil temperature, water temperature and other key parameters, and send early warning information in time when faults occur. At the same time, users can remotely start, stop and adjust the generator sets through mobile phones or computers, greatly improving the convenience and reliability of operation. According to industry statistics, the global market share of intelligent diesel generators is expected to reach 45% in 2026, an increase of 12 percentage points compared with 2024.
In terms of application scenarios, diesel generators are no longer limited to traditional fields such as emergency power supply and industrial production, but are gradually expanding to new fields such as new energy supporting, rural revitalization and outdoor sports. In the field of new energy, diesel generators are used as backup power for photovoltaic and wind power generation projects, solving the problem of unstable power supply caused by weather changes. In rural areas, small and medium-sized diesel generators provide stable power support for rural workshops, breeding bases and rural tourism projects, promoting the development of rural economy. In addition, with the rise of outdoor camping and self-driving tourism, small portable diesel generators have become a new consumption hotspot, with sales increasing by 68% year-on-year in 2025.
The competitive pattern of the global diesel generator market is also changing. Traditional foreign brands such as Cummins and Caterpillar still occupy a dominant position in the high-end market, but domestic brands are accelerating their catch-up. Relying on cost advantages and technological innovation, domestic manufacturers such as Weichai, Yuchai and Shangchai have continuously expanded their market share in the mid-to-low-end market and gradually entered the high-end market. In 2025, the export volume of domestic diesel generators reached 1.2 million units, a year-on-year increase of 15.3%, and the export area expanded to more than 120 countries and regions.
Industry experts said that the diesel generator industry is facing both opportunities and challenges in the process of transformation. On the one hand, the increasing demand for clean energy and intelligent equipment provides a broad development space for the industry; on the other hand, the intensification of market competition and the pressure of environmental protection will force enterprises to continuously improve their technological level and product quality. It is expected that in the next three years, the global diesel generator market will maintain a growth rate of 5%-8%, and the industry will gradually move towards high-quality development.
